“The SACRED MOUNTAIN OF JAVA.”

In East Java, at an attitude of 2392 meters and covering the largest sea of sand caldera, is located the still active Bromo volcano.
The characteristic Tengger community display tanned faces and continuously wear sarongs around their bodies, completed by typical headgear skullcaps as an adaptive result to cold mountain temperatures surrounding the region. They are inherently farmers, their fertile fields perched on steep mountain slopes and hilltops. They are mostly of Hindu faith, with similar beliefs held by the majority of the nearby Balinese population.
A common Tengger spiritual saying goes:
"Almighty God created light, feeling and will in humans so as to create a world with sincerity of heart. Humans have to learn and open up to God to realize full freedom".
